Hello! I am so glad you’re here!
I am SO excited to share that Sadie and I have finally started a blog. It is something we have talked about doing for a very long time. Hopefully our food and exercise tips will help you to live a life that you’re proud of! Whatever that means for you.
My name is Olivia, but my friends and family call me Liv. I am a communication studies and nutrition and dietetics double major, and am very passionate about holistic health. What I mean to say is that even though I am passionate about exercise, nutrition, and dietetics, I feel that “health” looks very different on everyone. People practice health in many different ways.
With that being said, there are countless ways that your identities can play a role in what you eat and how you move. In addition, your personal values, attitudes, and lifestyle preferences are also big factors in how you live out health, and these are things I like to keep in mind as I remember that there is no single way to eat or exercise that makes an individual “healthy”. It is our job to honor everyone’s stories, backgrounds, traditions, rituals, beliefs (and many more) when it comes to thinking about a person's overall wellbeing.
For me personally, I eat a mostly plant-based diet (pescatarian) and am an outdoor fanatic! Health to me is a perfect balance of spending some time in the great outdoors, moving in some capacity every single day, and sharing delicious meals or treats with friends. I absolutely do not like to think of exercising as a chore, and I believe in movement for the joy of it rather than movement for physical gain. When it comes to food, I do not believe in “clean” eating, and I’ve never been a huge fan of going on a diet (but I recognize that different diets can work for different people.) The food we eat is so closely tied to our emotions, specific times in the day, holidays, and special occasions. Food is not only fuel- it is truly a piece of who we are and who we're connected to. I hope to share more with you about how I consider food a big part of who I am, and how it is a reflection of my deepest values.
Here are a few facts about me:
1- I prefer sunrises over sunsets.
2- One of my favorite food rituals is eating a snack every night before bed.
3- My favorite way to exercise is doing anything outside; running, biking, paddle boarding, hiking, swimming, skiing, yoga, you name it!
4- I am secretly really good at gardening and keeping plants alive… even indoors.
5- I am both a science nerd and a people person, and I love that my nutrition major allows me to be both!
